Purpose

This Standard Operating Procedure establishes the BCMA Association Standard for competition shorts for both male and female athletes. It promotes athlete safety, professionalism and consistent presentation while ensuring alignment with the requirements of the British Columbia Athletic Commission.

Scope

Definitions

Competition Shorts: Approved athletic shorts worn during official weigh-ins and competition.

Policy Statement

BCMA supports and aligns its competition procedures with the BC Athletic Commission. Where any inconsistency exists, BC Athletic Commission requirements take precedence.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Athletes: Wear approved competition shorts at all times during competition. • Coaches/Seconds: Ensure athletes comply with shorts requirements. • Referees/Officials: Inspect shorts before each bout and at weigh-ins. • Promoters: Communicate and enforce shorts requirements for all events. • Member Clubs: Educate participants on approved shorts standards.

Procedures

1. Male and female athletes must wear approved competition shorts. 2. Shorts shall be clean, in good condition and allow unrestricted movement. 3. Shorts shall have no pockets, zippers, buttons, drawstrings with hard ends or any metal or hard components. 4. Shorts shall not contain offensive language, images or graphics. 5. Referees or officials may require an athlete to change non-compliant shorts before competition.

Compliance

Non-compliance may result in delayed participation, required change of attire, removal from competition or a decision by the Chief Official.
