Weigh-In Procedures (Pounds)

Purpose
This Standard Operating Procedure establishes the BCMA Association Standard for official weigh-in procedures at BCMA events and competitions. It ensures consistency, fairness, athlete safety and compliance with the requirements of the British Columbia Athletic Commission.
Scope
Applies to all athletes, officials and staff involved in the weigh-in process at BCMA sanctioned and non-sanctioned events.
Definitions
Weigh-In: The official process of recording an athlete's weight to confirm eligibility for competition. Official Scale: A calibrated scale approved for use by BCAC. Pre-Weigh-In: The initial weigh-in to confirm athletes make weight. BCAC: British Columbia Athletic Commission.
Policy Statement
BCMA supports and aligns its weigh-in procedures with the BC Athletic Commission. Where any inconsistency exists, BC Athletic Commission requirements take precedence.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Event Official: Conducts weigh-ins, verifies identity, operates the scale and records weights. • Athletes: Comply with weigh-in requirements, clothing rules and arrive within the scheduled time. • Promoters / Event Organizers: Provide suitable weigh-in area, equipment and staff.
Procedures — Weigh-In (Pounds)
7.1 Pre-Weigh-In Registration • Athletes must provide valid photo identification. • Athletes confirm they have read and understand the BCAC rules. 7.2 Attire • Athletes must weigh-in in approved attire: shorts / sports bra and sports underwear or compression shorts. • No shoes, socks, jewelry, or heavy hair accessories. 7.3 Weigh-In Process (Pounds) • Step on the scale when instructed and remain still. • Weight will be recorded in pounds (lb). • The weight must be within the contracted limit. 7.4 Weigh-In Time Windows • Pre-Weigh-In: As published in the event schedule. • Official Weigh-In: As published in the event schedule. • Athletes must make weight within the official window. 7.5 Failure to Make Weight • Athletes who fail to make weight will not be permitted to compete and will lose the competition. 7.6 Weight Certification • Once an athlete makes weight, it will be recorded and confirmed. • Athletes will receive confirmation of their official weight. 7.7 Confidentiality • All weight results are confidential. • Information will be shared only with authorized officials.
Compliance
Failure to follow this SOP or BC Athletic Commission rules may result in removal from the event, disqualification, or other disciplinary action as determined in accordance with BCAC regulations.
